Pubs and Bed & Breakfast accommodation had a traumatic 2020 thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic.
They were ordered to close with the initial lockdown in March, then opened up when the Government promoted “Eat Out To Help Out” in the summer, only to see further closures, due to the Coronavirus tier categories and then a further national lockdown from December 2020.
With closures came a growing risk of the growth of Legionella bacteria. Lockdown means water taps and showers are used much less and hot water may be switched off to save money.
The advice from the Legionella Control Association is clear – a risk assessment should be carried-out following periods of lockdown.
SAS Water were delighted to help the White Hart, Alton, by carrying out a risk assessment, sampling water and analysing those samples. Before sampling, we completed extensive flushing, cleaned, descaled and chlorinated the outlets.
The White Hart is an historic country pub on the High Street in the picturesque Staffordshire Moorlands village of Alton. It’s popular with villagers and has B&B rooms.
It is owned by around 60 members of the local community, chaired by local resident Tom Wilkinson who gave us his feedback.
