A council has admitted it learned lessons about legionella and pseudomonas “the hard way” during recent lockdowns and has updated its guidance.
Reports in the Scottish media say tests showed high levels of bacteria including legionella and pseudomonas, following the initial full Covid-19 lockdown.
If councils, responsible for public health, admit they failed to get it right, it’s very likely that many company owners and facilities managers still need to grow their understanding of the subject. isn’t it?
A quick Google search shows, in common with all councils and government bodies, Falkirk Council placed information on its own website headed “Legionella risks during Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak”.
Councillors agreed to approve updated guidance on Legionnaires Disease at a meeting of Falkirk Council’s executive held this month (March 2022).
Members heard that the council’s legionnaires disease policy has been in place since 2013 but this has now been made clearer in a “how to” guide.
This is the reason why SAS Water Ltd regularly highlights the need to improve awareness.
